Temporary Assistant Professor, Linguistics & Cognitive Science,

The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University
of Delaware invites applications for two Temporary Assistant Professor
positions in the Department of Linguistics & Cognitive Science. The
appointment is expected to begin on August 16, 2025, and will run
until August 31, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for up to a
maximum of three years.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of
this position are to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate students
majoring or minoring in Cognitive Science and/or Linguistics, with
some possibilities for graduate level teaching and mentoring. Some
service may also be required. The successful candidate will have a
Ph.D. in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field. They will
also demonstrate teaching excellence and a strong commitment to
teaching and advising. The candidate is expected to teach a minimum of
three courses per semester from the following list: Introduction to
Cognitive Science; Introduction to Linguistics; Language, Mind,
Society; Science of Language; Topics in Cognitive Science;
Psycholinguistics; Neurolinguistics; Structure of English; Second
Language Acquisition & Bilingualism. Teaching breadth is desired,
although the candidate is not expected to have expertise in all of
these areas.
THE DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND COGNITIVE SCIENCE AT UD: The
Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of
Delaware (https://www.lingcogsci.udel.edu) is within the College of
Arts and Sciences. The department runs a Ph.D. program in Linguistics,
a Master’s degree in Linguistics and Cognitive Science, a Bachelor of
Science in Cognitive Science, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Linguistics. Our largest undergraduate population is in the Cognitive
Science major, which houses a concentration in Speech Language
Pathology. The department is committed to a climate of mutual respect
among all individuals. Faculty in the department have opportunities
for teaching growth and development at the Center for Teaching and
Assessment of Learning (https://ctal.udel.edu/).
The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware offers
exceptional educational experiences including integrated instruction,
