The Institute for Linguistic Studies of the Russian Academy of
Sciences announces the Fifth Conference on Uralic, Altaic and
Paleo-Asiatic languages. The Conference will take place at the
Institute for Linguistic Studies (St. Petersburg, Tuchkov per., 9), on
November 24-26, 2025. This year the Conference will be held in a mixed
format, offline and online.
Here is a tentative list of topics that will be studied at the
conference on the material of Uralic, Altaic and Paleo-Asiatic
languages:
1) Phonology, grammar and lexicon.
2) Language contacts.
3) Sociolinguistic and ethnolinguistic studies.
4) Comparative and historical studies.
5) Corpora studies.
The conference may include workshops. The topic of a workshop cannot
be limited to the genetic group or family of languages. Proposals for
workshops should be sent to the following e-mail address:
langrus.spb at gmail.com until July 15, 2025. The proposal should contain
an annotation of the workshop and at least 8 annotations or abstracts
of the talks. Workshop participants can submit an abstract up to 3600
characters, excluding the list of references and glosses (see the
requirements for the abstracts below) or a short annotation of the
talk. In the later case, if the workshop is included in the conference
program, the participants should submit the abstract before September
1, 2025. The organizing committee will notify on the acceptance /
rejection of the workshop before July 30, 2025.
Anonymous abstracts for participation in the general session or in a
workshop should be sent to e-mail: langrus.spb at gmail.com until
September 1, 2025. The abstract should not exceed 3600 characters
(with spaces), including examples, diagrams, and tables but excluding
the list of references and glosses. The abstract should be sent in one
of the following formats: .doc, .docx or .rtf. If non-standard fonts
are used, they should be attached to the letter; in this case
abstracts should be sent also in .pdf format. The letter should
contain the information about the author / authors: name, place of
work / study, e-mail address; it should say whether the presentation
is planned at a workshop or at the general session, as well as the
information on whether the presentation will be made offline or
online. Each participant may submit no more than two applications --
in this case one of the two presentations should be made in
co-authorship.
The Organizing Committee will select abstracts based on anonymous
reviewing. The notification of the acceptance / rejection will be sent
to the authors no later than October 1, 2025.
Time for presentations: 30 minutes (20 minutes talk + 10 minutes
discussion). Conference languages: Russian, English. There is no
registration fee for participation in the conference. Unfortunately,
the organizing committee will not be able to reimburse expenses for
travel and accommodation. A collection of abstracts will have been
published electronically by the beginning of the Conference.
