Journal: Topics in Language Disorders
Issue: Artificial Intelligence in Speech and Language Assessment and
Intervention
Call Deadline: 15-Sep-2025
We aim to publish a guest issue titled Artificial Intelligence in
Speech and Language Assessment and Intervention for the peer-reviewed
journal Topics in Language Disorders (TLD). TLD is a Scopus Q1 journal
that publishes a range of high-quality contributions, such as original
data-based research papers, comprehensive reviews, and clinical
practice guides.
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies continue to evolve, they
are reshaping how clinicians and educators identify, evaluate, and
support individuals with communication challenges. The issue aims to
examine current innovations, emerging tools, and ethical
considerations, while offering a critical lens on the integration of
AI, including generative AI, into real-world clinical and educational
settings. Papers should aim to address practical implications for
practitioners like speech-language pathologists, and, where
appropriate, research implications for scholars in communication
sciences and disorders, special education, linguistics, and related
fields. Contributions may focus on diverse populations, including but
not limited to individuals with autism spectrum disorders,
developmental language disorder, dyslexia, and other communication
disorders.
Specifically, papers in this issue aim to fulfill one or more of the
following objectives:
- Describe current applications of AI and generative AI in speech and
language assessment and intervention.
- Evaluate the efficacy, benefits, and limitations of AI-driven tools
in clinical and educational contexts.
- Compare traditional and AI-enhanced approaches to speech and
language assessment and therapy.
- Identify ethical, privacy, and bias-related considerations in the
use of AI with varied populations.
- Demonstrate how generative AI can support personalized and adaptive
intervention strategies.
- Propose future directions for integrating AI into practice and
research across communication-related disciplines.
To express initial interest, please submit a provisional title and a
200–250-word abstract to the Guest Editor, Dr Georgios Georgiou
(https://www.georgiougeorg.com/), at georgiou.georg at unic.ac.cy.
