The chair of "Research on Foreign Language Learning and Teaching:
Didactics of English" (Prof. Angelovska) in collaboration with the
chairs of "Developmental Psychology" (Prof. Ebersbach), "English
Linguistics" (Prof. Härtl), and "Research on Foreign Language Learning
and Teaching: Didactics of French and Spanish" (Prof. Schlaak) at the
University of Kassel invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research
Associate (PDRA) position within the interdisciplinary research
project TELL-ME ("The Effects of Typological Proximity and Spaced
Language Learning Practice on Memory Retention in Multilingual
Learners"). This position provides an opportunity to work on
cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, as well as to contribute to
the preparation of follow-up funding proposals. The successful
candidate will also gain professional experience in applying
interdisciplinary methods, collaborating with schools, and leading
high-impact research activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop experimental designs for spaced language learning and
typological studies, including preparation of controlled materials.
Program and conduct eye-tracking experiments and collect in-class
behavioral data in schools.
Collaborate with local schools to recruit multilingual learners and
manage data collection logistics.
Extract, analyze, and interpret behavioral and gaze metrics data using
advanced statistical approaches.
Write research outputs for peer-reviewed publications and present
findings at national and international conferences.
Contribute to grant writing for follow-up projects (e.g., LOEWE
Priority Program or DFG) and secure additional research positions.
Participate in the broader dissemination of findings, ensuring their
application in educational settings.
Mentor student researchers and contribute to lab management tasks.
Essential Requirements:
Master and A PhD in Psychology, Applied Linguistics, Foreign Language
Learning and Teaching, Second Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics,
Multilingualism, or a closely related field.
Proven experience designing and conducting empirical research.
Expertise in statistical modeling (e.g., Linear Mixed Effects Models)
and data visualization.
(Willingness to gain) proficiency with programming tools and
experiment software such as PsychoPy, E-Prime, or R.
(Willingness to gain) experience with eye-tracking systems and gaze
metrics analysis.
Excellent academic writing skills in English and (international)
publications with peer review.
A proactive approach to securing independent research funding and
career development.
Desirable Attributes:
Background in multilingual education and typological analysis.
Experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse
populations.
Familiarity with inclusive educational practices and pedagogy.
