The Federal University of Santa Catarina (Florianópolis, Brazil) is
pleased to invite researchers, educators, and practitioners at the
interface of Linguistics and Logic to our first workshop on "Modality
and Quantification in Natural Languages." This one-day satellite
workshop is part of a broader Philosophy event (Principia) and aims to
explore how modality, quantification, and phenomena such as genericity
and free choiceness manifest in natural language. We will delve into
both classical and non-classical logical models to better understand
the syntactic and semantic complexities underlying human communication
and reasoning.
Our goal is to stimulate an interdisciplinary dialogue that not only
examines the theoretical challenges at this nexus but also addresses
practical implications for pedagogy, computational modeling, and
educational resource development. We welcome contributions that offer
formal descriptions aligned with contemporary linguistic research and
philosophical perspectives on logic.
Join us in a dynamic exchange of ideas as we seek to broaden our
understanding of how formal frameworks can enhance the study of
natural language. We look forward to your participation and innovative
insights.
We invite linguists, educators, language technology experts, and all
interested participants! To find out more about the conference, visit
