The research unit Langage, langues et cultures d’Afrique (“Languages
and cultures of Africa”) (LLACAN) is pleased to announce the
Comparative Niger-Congo workshop, which will take place on May
22nd-23rd, 2025 in Villejuif (near Paris).
Abstracts may address any aspect of the comparative-historical
linguistics and reconstruction of the Niger-Congo languages.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
Abstracts in English or French should be no longer than one page A4
(normal margins of 2,5 cm on each side, single spaced lines, Times New
Roman, Doulos SIL or DejaVu font, 12 pt font size), with the
possibility of using an additional page for data and references.
Please make sure that all examples are carefully glossed (using the
Leipzig Glossing Conventions and explaining any supplementary glosses)
and that tones are marked on all examples (unless the example comes
from a written source where tones are not marked). Abstracts should
state a clear research hypothesis and provide an indication of the
relevance of its conclusions for the history and reconstruction of the
Niger-Congo languages.
Abstracts should be submitted as an MS Word or Open Office Writer file
to dmitry.idiatov at cnrs.fr by April 15th 2025. The file name of your
abstract should be the first two words of the title of your abstract
separated by a hyphen.

- abstract title
- your first and last name
- your affiliation
FORMAT OF PRESENTATIONS
Presentations can be in English or French.
Unless otherwise stated, we will expect your presentations to be 20
minutes long (plus 10 minutes of discussion), but other formats are
welcome too.
Presentations will be in person, but it will be possible to follow the
talks online via Zoom.
