MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must (1) hold a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies, Applied
Linguistics, or its equivalent by date of hire; (2) demonstrate
excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching and research,
preferably in technical and scientific writing, academic, digital,
media, and multimodal literacy, bilingualism, and the use of the
native language in research, as well as the ethical and academic
application of human language technologies and artificial
intelligence. Furthermore, candidates must (3) show potential and
availability to conduct research in the aforementioned areas and teach
core and service courses, such as academic literacy, academic,
expository, and formal writing, among others. They should (4) provide
evidence of a productive research trajectory, including peer-reviewed
publications and aptitude for successful research proposal writing.
Candidates must also (5) have excellent oral and written communication
skills in Spanish. Additional consideration will be given to
candidates with knowledge and experience in computer, data, and
information technologies.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
The selected candidate will (1) teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in academic, digital, and media literacy, literature or
linguistics, or other core program areas, including general education
courses; (2) coordinate general education courses in academic
literacy, including training instructors and supervising teaching
assistants. They will also (3) be available to lead or participate in
thesis committees; (4) develop and coordinate research projects within
the aforementioned areas, mentoring undergraduate and graduate
students; (5) regularly publish research in peer-reviewed journals and
conferences; (6) contribute to the improvement of the department’s
academic offerings through course or curricular sequence development
or revision; (7) seek and obtain external funding to support research,
results dissemination, and student training; and (8) participate in
departmental, college, and institutional committees, assessment and
continuous improvement initiatives, outreach, recruitment, and other
service activities that support the department and the institution.
