Subject: TEL PhD program: 2025 call is out!

The University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia, Italy is
opening a call for 3 PhD positions within the PhD program in
Theoretical and Experimental Linguistics (TEL).
TEL aims at training scholars in the field of linguistics, considering
both theoretical and experimental approaches. In particular, the
program focuses on studies in the areas of theoretical syntax,
experimental pragmatics and neuropragmatics, and computational
linguistics, taking into account both formal descriptions and
psycho/neurolinguistic investigations.
The call is now available on the PhD website:
https://www.iusspavia.it/en/education/doctoral-programmes/theoretical-and-experimental-linguistics/call-application
Of the 3 positions:
- n. 1 position funded by the ERC project “PROcessing MEtaphors:
Neurochronometry, Acquisition and DEcay” (PROMENADE) on the topic
“Sentence structure and metaphor interpretation”
The project will deal with the investigation of sentence structure and
interpretation through a combination of both theoretical approaches
(formal, syntactic, and semantic principles, with particular attention
to the generative grammar model and the interface with pragmatics e to
the predicative links in sentence structure and metaphorical
expressions) and experimental methods.
- n. 1 position funded by the ERC project “PROcessing MEtaphors:
Neurochronometry, Acquisition and DEcay” (PROMENADE) on the topic
“metaphor and neuropragmatics”
The project will deal with topics in experimental pragmatics and
neuropragmatics (in particular metaphor and non-literal language),
developmental pragmatics, language and pragmatic disorders, also via
NLP and computational modelling of behavioral and neural data.
- n. 1 position funded by IUSS on the topic “Computational models”.
The project will deal with computational models of language
acquisition and processing, and corpora analysis.
The Teaching Board starting from academic year 2025/26 includes:
