Call for Papers:
The 1st Latin American Conference on Eye Movements (LACEM 2025) will
take place in Viña del Mar, Chile, from December 10th to 12th, 2025.
Organized by the Language & Cognition Laboratory at Pontificia
Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, LACEM aims to establish an
international platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The
conference invites researchers from diverse basic and applied fields
using eye-tracking, including psychology, linguistics,
neurophysiology, computer science, education, marketing, and beyond.
The conference will focus on research topics relevant to Latin America
and languages spoken in Latin America.
This conference will be in person, so that we can maximize interaction
among all attendees.
We are excited to announce our confirmed keynote speakers:
Johanna Kaakinen (University of Turku, Finland)
Talk: Cognitive Engagement During Reading
Professor Kaakinen is a leading researcher in cognitive psychology,
reading comprehension, and eye-tracking. She directs the FINSCI and
IMMERSED projects and has published widely in Journal of Educational
Psychology, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and
Cognition, and Memory & Cognition. She also serves as
Co-Editor-in-Chief of Discourse Processes.
Aline Godfroid (Michigan State University, USA)
Talk: Eye-Tracking in Instructed Second Language Acquisition: A
Historical Perspective and a Call for Inclusive, Representative
Research
Professor Godfroid is a recognized expert in second language
acquisition, psycholinguistics, and vocabulary learning. She
co-directs the Second Language Studies Eye-tracking Lab and is Vice
President of the European Second Language Association.
We are also pleased to offer two pre-conference workshops:
Analyzing and Reporting Eye-Movement Data
Instructor: Bernhard Angele (Bournemouth University, UK)
This workshop will explore how to analyze and clearly report findings
from eye-tracking studies, with a focus on reading and attention
mechanisms.
Translating Research Questions into Eye Movement Studies
Instructors: Denis Drieghe (University of Southampton, UK) and João
Vieira (University of Southampton, UK)
This workshop will guide participants through the design of
eye-tracking studies based on theoretical and empirical research
questions in reading and language processing.
