Specialty Areas: Linguistic Theories; Morphology; Semantics; Syntax
Description:
The DFG Research Unit ‘Cyclic Optimization’, starting its second phase
on March 1 2026 with 13 new research positions, explores the
interaction of cyclicity and optimization in all areas of grammar:
phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. The position announced
here is part of the subproject ‘Optimal Cycles’ (PI: Greg Kobele).
This subproject investigates the degree to which syntactic structure
is needed at the interfaces, with a particular emphasis on the
syntax-semantics and syntax-morphology interfaces. In other words, we
ask the question: to what extent can interface interpretation in
minimalist grammars be done directly compositionally? We will work in
close cooperation with the other subprojects of the Research Unit
which will also support a rotation project, where project employees
may investigate research questions at the interfaces of the different
subprojects in 2-month internships under the supervision of other the
sub-project leads.
Please check the website of the Research Unit for more information on
the overall project, additional job announcements, and details on the
optimal cycles project.
