Journal: The Journal of Comparative Germanic Linguistics
Issue: Microvariation in English Syntax
Call Deadline: 30-Sep-2026

The Journal of Comparative Germanic Linguistics provides a platform
for discussion of theoretical linguistic research into the modern and
older languages and dialects of the Germanic family.
JCGL invites submissions to a Collection “Microvariation in English
Syntax”.
In recent years, there has been significant interest in the ways in
which evidence from syntactic microvariation can inform theoretical
models of the grammar, ranging from large-scale studies of regional
variation to in-depth investigations of individual phenomena. This
Collection aims to contribute to this growing body of work with a
focus on syntactic microvariation in English varieties, encompassing
both geographic and non-geographic (social) variation, addressing
questions about the nature of syntactic and socio-syntactic variation,
and the underlying structure of the grammar.
We welcome submissions presenting new empirical data from across
varieties of English, as well as new analyses of existing data.
The Collection is edited by Alison Biggs (McMaster University), Andrew
Weir (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), and E Jamieson
(University of York). The deadline for submissions is 30 September
2026. For more information, visit the collection website
(https://link.springer.com/collections/bhbdcegaig) or contact the
guest editors via E Jamieson (e.jamieson at york.ac.uk).
