The coordinated research project "The grammar and its interfaces:
architecture, variation and applications" in the Department of Catalan
Philology and General Linguistics at Universitat de Barcelona
(Catalonia) is accepting expressions of interest from researchers
interested in applying to the upcoming Juan de la Cierva (Spanish
Government) and Beatriu de Pinós (Catalan Government) postdoctoral
calls, to develop postdoctoral research projects devoted to phonology
(with Dr. Clàudia Pons-Moll as a sponsor) or syntax (with Dr. Anna
Pineda as a sponsor). Details of each program are provided below:
Under the Juan de la Cierva program, the Spanish Ministry of Science,
Innovation, and Universities is offering 3-year postdoctoral
contracts. Eligible applicants must have obtained their PhD between
January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, with certain exceptions (i.e.
maternity leave, illness…) that allow extensions. Contracts are
expected to begin sometime between late 2026 and September 1, 2027.
The call is already available and applications and the deadline for
applications is December 10, 2025. All the information (only available

Under the Beatriu de Pinós program, the Catalan research agency
(AGAUR) is also offering three-year postdoctoral contracts. Eligible
applicants must have obtained their PhD between January 1, 2018, and
December 31, 2023, with certain exceptions (i.e. maternity leave,
illness…) that allow extensions. In addition, applicants must have at
least 2 years of postdoctoral experience outside Spain, and must not
have resided or worked in Spain for more than 12 months in the last 3
years. The anticipated start date for these contracts falls between
late 2026 and mid-2027. Information (in English, Catalan and Spanish)

It is important to bear in mind that in both programs applicants must
be endorsed by a staff member at the University of Barcelona. Dr.
Clàudia Pons-Moll (for phonology, currently leading a project on “The
interaction between phonology and the phonetic and morphosyntactic
components: current challenges for the study of linguistic variation”)
and Dr. Anna Pineda (for syntax, currently leading a project called
“Syntactic variation in the Romance languages: advances, challenges,
and applications”) are willing to endorse one candidate each for these
programs. The final selection of sponsored candidates will depend on
how well the applicants’ research aligns with that of the potential
sponsor, as well as on the overall strength of their CVs.
