The LAGB Postgraduate Student Committee will be hosting the next
installment of our ‘Applying to PhDs’ workshop series: 'Making your
application stand out', on Thursday 9 October 2025 from 16:30 – 17:30
(Edinburgh/London time).
In this session, committee members, Fae Hicks (University of
Edinburgh) and Zara Fahim (University of Nottingham), will guide you
through the soft skills section of a PhD application. In our last
session, we reviewed our own PhD research proposals and highlighted
their strengths/weaknesses. Now, we’ll explore how to build on your
brilliant proposal. We’ll include tips for framing the experiences you
already have for maximal impact and share ideas for experiences you
might like to gain – everything from research internships, to summer
school attendance, to organising a reading group.
As always, the joining link will be made available on our website by
the event start time:
https://www.lagbpsc.co.uk/events/applying-for-phds
The sessions are not recorded but you can find written guidance,
slides and other materials in the same place.
