We are pleased to announce that the sixth International Conference on
Situating Strategy Use (SSU6): Learning strategies and Self-regulation
in the time of AI will be held in Alexandroupolis, Greece, on 11-13 of
September 2026. Organized by the Department of Education Sciences in
Early Childhood, School of Education Sciences, Democritus University
of Thrace, this interdisciplinary conference aims to be a leading
forum for cutting-edge research at the dynamic intersection of
learning strategies, self-regulation, and artificial intelligence
within an international community of scholars, educators, and
practitioners from various disciplines.
The conference will highlight three main thematic pillars: learning
strategies across disciplines, self-regulated learning, and learning
with AI.
Main Conference Themes:
We invite submissions revolving around (but not limited to) the
following topics:
 - Strategies in Specific Contexts and for Diverse Learner Populations
(including research on the strategies used by specific groups, such as
young learners’, learners with special educational needs, heritage
language speakers, and international students)
 - The Interplay of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) and Strategy Use
 - Strategy Use and Learner Well-Being (including the relationship
between strategy use and individual learner characteristics, such as
motivation, emotions, beliefs, etc.)
 - Teacher Roles in Strategy-Based Instruction (including practices
and training for educators in how to effectively teach learning
strategies)
 - Learning Strategies in Technology-Mediated Environments (exploring
the use of various technologies, including AI and non-AI applications,
and their role in facilitating strategy use)
 - Methodological Innovations in Strategy Research (including new and
innovative research designs for studying strategy use)

Submission Guidelines:
We welcome abstracts for individual papers, symposia, workshops, and
posters. Abstracts should be 300-350 words, excluding references, and
must be submitted in English or Greek. Abstracts should be structured
according to the following to ensure clarity and consistency for
reviewers: Research Objectives, Methodology, Findings, and
Implications for Practice/Theory. Each author may submit up to two
abstracts: a) one single-authored and one co-authored, or b) two
co-authored.
