Description:
The Department of German Studies in the School of International
Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Arizona
invites applications for a tenure-eligible position at the rank of
Assistant Professor to serve as German Language Program Director
(LPD), beginning in August 2026, with a Ph.D. in applied linguistics,
second language acquisition, or second language education in hand at
the time of appointment. We are particularly interested in someone who
will bring a new dimension and expertise to our program, and who will
help us increase our number of undergraduate German majors by
developing and implementing an innovative curriculum that aligns with
contemporary pedagogical principles and offers engaging learning
experiences for our students. The area of expertise is open, but
candidates must have a research agenda closely related to the duties
and responsibilities of directing a German language program. Areas of
interest include but are not limited to: innovative course design,
technology-enhanced language learning, online second language
education. Candidates must have an active research agenda,
demonstrated excellence in teaching, and an active commitment to
recruiting German majors, minors, and graduate students. Superior
proficiency in German and English is required.
