Meeting Description:
The Chicago Linguistic Society (CLS) is the oldest student-run
linguistics organization in the United States. This academic year, CLS
will host its 62nd Annual Meeting (CLS 62), to be held from April 17
through April 19, 2026 at the University of Chicago. Upholding a
longstanding tradition, the conference serves as a forum for leading
scholars and researchers from around the world to engage in the
exchange of ideas across all areas of linguistics. CLS is particularly
committed to fostering interdisciplinary engagement and promoting the
value of diverse theoretical perspectives and methodological
approaches within the field.

- María Biezma (University of Massachusetts Amherst)
- Marisa Casillas (University of Chicago)
- Meghan Clayards (McGill University)
- Ellen Lau (University of Maryland)
- Laurel MacKenzie (New York University)
Call for Papers:
We invite submission of abstracts for 20-minute talks and poster
presentations on any topic of linguistic inquiry pertaining to spoken
or signed languages. Subfields may include but are not limited to
syntax, morphology, semantics, pragmatics, language acquisition,
phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics,
sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, and their various
interfaces. We also welcome work situated in adjacent disciplines
across the cognitive and social sciences.
This year, we particularly encourage submissions that engage with the
following broad themes:
- Formal approaches to conventional force and discourse effects
- Acquisition of linguistic form and function
- Dynamics in speech perception and production
- Psychological and neural representations of language
- Sociolinguistic variation in morphology and syntax
Abstract Guidelines:
- Abstracts must be submitted in PDF format with the filename
PaperTitle.pdf through the Oxford Abstracts platform
(https://tinyurl.com/cls62cfp) by January 4, 2026 at 11:59 PM Central
Time.
- All submissions must be anonymized by not including author name(s)
nor affiliations in the abstract or filename.
- The paper title and keywords should be included within the abstract.
- Abstracts should not exceed two US letter-sized or A4 pages in
length, including data and references (just select references are
acceptable). Abstracts must have one-inch margins on all sides and use
a font no smaller than 11-point.
- Data, tables, figures and graphs should be incorporated into the
main text of the abstract.
- Submissions are limited to one individual abstract and one joint
abstract per author, or two joint abstracts per author.
Important Dates:
- Submission deadline: January 4, 2026 at 11:59 PM Central Time
- Notification of acceptance: Mid to late February
- Conference dates: April 17 - April 19, 2026
