Description:
In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (25.89 hours/week
= 65%) by November 1, 2025 or later, we are looking for a Doctoral
researcher (m/f/x) in semantics/pragmatics
The DFG research founded project “At-issueness as propositional
prominence” (lead by Prof. Dr. Daniel Gutzmann) investigates the
concept of “at-issueness”, as used in semantics and pragmatics,
reconceiving it as the relative prominence of propositions.

As a doctoral researcher (m/f/x), you will collaborate with the
postdoctoral researcher to design, set up, and carry out experimental
studies and will participate in the publication of the results.
Writing a doctoral dissertation, which will implement the empirical
results into a theoretical framework, will also be one of your project
tasks.
Your tasks:
- Carry-out linguistic experiments (including item design and
recruiting participants)
- Presenting results at conferences
- Organize talks/workshops
- Participate in and later on lead publications of results
- Write a doctoral dissertation that connects empirical data and
semantic/pragmatic theory
- No teaching obligations.
Your profile:
- Excellent Master’s degree (or equivalent) in linguistics or a
closely related field
- Specialization in theoretical or empirical semantics/pragmatics
- Openness to bridging both areas is essential
- Team spirit and willingness to collaborate closely with the
project’s postdoctoral researcher
- Adequate proficiency in academic English (writing and
communication)
- Desirable: experience with statistical analysis and empirical
methods
- Experience with the concept of at-issueness is a bonus

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the
Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements
are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L (65%).
