Haverford College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor of Linguistics, with a primary specialization in
Sociolinguistics, secondary specialization(s) (e.g., Syntax,
Morphosyntax, among others) open. Haverford College Linguistics is
part of the Tri-College Department of Linguistics, which also includes
Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics and a proven track
record of research in their area of specialization that demonstrates
intellectual rigor and promise. The successful candidate will be
expected to teach at all levels of the curriculum, from introductory
courses in one or more core areas of linguistics to advanced seminars
in their area of specialization. They will also advise and mentor
undergraduates in senior thesis research on a wide range of topics. We
seek candidates interested in thoughtful, creative, and engaged
pedagogical practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a
commitment to creating inclusive and intellectually challenging
environments both in and out of classroom spaces where a diverse
student body can learn and thrive. We also seek a candidate who will
contribute to our growing department as we consider the ways this
expansion position will enable us to enhance the role of
sociolinguistic inquiry in our curriculum.
Haverford College embraces the teacher-scholar model and supports
faculty research through programs and funding opportunities such as a
pre-tenure sabbatical after a successful 3rd year review. The
appointment begins July 1, 2026, with an expectation that all
requirements for the PhD will be completed by August 31, 2026.
