Description:

PhD Position in English Linguistics
General:
The FAU seeks to appoint a PhD researcher for 3 years in English
linguistics employed on a 65% basis on a TV-L13 scale (which amounts
to a starting salary of about €3000 per month before tax). The
researcher will be part of an international team headed by Prof. Dr.
Lotte Sommerer starting 1st of January (or 1st of February 2026 at the
latest). The candidate will also be a member of the DFG Research
Training Group (RTG) Dimensions of Constructional Space and will
develop the following corpus-based PhD project investigating the EEBO
and the ARCHER corpus:
A constructional account of Prepositions and Prepositional Phrases in
Early and Late Modern English
Selection criteria and qualifications:
Necessary:
 - An excellent MA in English Linguistics or an equivalent MA (MA
Linguistics, Lehramtsabschluss)
 - Familiarity with usage-based, cognitive and constructional models
of language (CCxG;DCxG)
 - Experience in designing and carrying out corpus-based studies
 - Good IT skills (Windows, Excel, …)
 - C2 in English
 - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
 - Knowledge of German (B2)
 - Familiarity with standard statistical tests and software (R Studio,
Python)
Main Duties:
 - Design, carry out and publish PhD research
 - Participate in all events organized by the RTG (weekly meetings,
conferences and summer schools)
 - Undertake any other duties consistent with the level and nature of
the post (help organize conferences and workshops)
