Linguistic Field(s): Discourse Analysis; Text/Corpus Linguistics
Subject Language(s): English (eng)
French (fra)
Organised by Laure Lansari, Florent Moncomble & Océane Foubert
New modes of discourse have emerged over the last twenty years, linked
to a number of technological innovations. These modes of discourse are
sometimes referred to as ‘technodiscourses’, which call into question
the traditional dichotomy between written and oral communication.
Linguists have gradually taken an interest in these technodiscourses,
which raise important methodological and theoretical questions,
forcing the field of linguistics to take a crucial epistemological
turn: how can one collect data and build reliable corpora? What tools
should be used to analyse the data? What are the similarities and
differences between the various existing social media? From a
theoretical point of view, what linguistic and, more broadly,
communicational changes can be observed on the basis of this data?
What new ways are emerging of looking at previously documented
phenomena? To what extent is it still relevant to use the usual
analytical frameworks?
The aim of this event will be to provide an overview of current
research in this field at an international level, and to compare
practices and results. It is geared towards established as well as
young researchers, doctoral students and even undergraduates, with the
aim of reinforcing training through research.
