Subject: A Book Collecting International Best Practices in Deaf / Deaf Education

We are excited to announce a call for contributions for an upcoming
volume on effective methodologies in deaf/Deaf education in use from
around the world. The aim of this book is to share good practices and
evidence-based approaches that have proven successful in teaching
deaf/Deaf students in different contexts.
We are looking for contributions that describe methodologies in areas
such as:
 - Literacy teaching in the early years of primary school
 - Grammar teaching
 - Developing the ability to read and write different types of texts
 - STEM disciplines teaching
 - Sign languages teaching
 - Foreign languages teaching
 - Spoken languages teaching (also by means of sign languages)
…and whatever methodology that proved effective, to your knowledge, in
any field connected to school education.
Contributions ought to include quantitative or qualitative evidence
from research studies, standardized tests, or classroom anecdotes.
To guide contributors, we provide:
A template outlining the sections that each chapter should include
(see below)
A model chapter illustrating a specific methodology used in Italy
(write to sara.trovato at unimib.it to receive it)
Chapters can be written by experts in each country, possibly in
collaboration with teachers that use such methods, or by translating
and adapting existing publications initially written in less widely
known languages into English - by using the template.
We encourage collaborative authorship (e.g., deaf/Deaf teachers with
hearing colleagues and vice versa).
Key Details:
Abstract deadline: 7 January 2026
Chapter deadline: 30 April 2026
Chapter maximum length: 5,000 words per chapter
Chapters must follow the provided template and model chapter
The book will be published in English. International publishers have
already been contacted.
If you are interested in contributing, please write to
sara.trovato at unimib.it with a half-a-page to one-page abstract and
4-to-7 keywords to confirm your interest.
Please feel free to share this call with colleagues who might also
have valuable insights to contribute.
We look forward to bringing together a rich, global collection of best
practices in deaf/Deaf education, and we hope you will join us in this
collaborative project!

Each chapter should include the following sections, using the same
titles as shown here and in the model chapter:
1. Where the methodology has been applied and evidence of its
effectiveness
2. Theoretical foundations of the methodology
3. Practical implementation in the classroom
4. Classroom observations when using the methodology
5. Considerations for deaf children
6. Exercises for teachers to develop their skills and use the
methodology effectively
7. Bibliography
An introduction and a conclusion can be included, if you wish to. A
short abstract and 4-to-7 keywords are expected.
