Chosun HK Global Fellowship – Call for Applications For Advanced-Stage
Research Projects
The Chosun University HK Research Group invites applications for the
HK Global Fellowship, open to undergraduate and graduate students who
wish to bring an existing research project to a submission-ready stage
with dedicated mentorship.
Fellowship Period:
November 15, 2025 – February 15, 2026 (3 months)
Application Deadline: October 15, 2025
Purpose:
This fellowship is designed for applicants with research projects at
an advanced stage. Eligible projects might already have data
collection completed, preliminary analyses conducted, and a draft
manuscript prepared but in need of substantial refinement before
submission. Selected fellows will work closely with an HK Research
Group mentor to prepare their manuscript for submission to a
peer-reviewed journal (e.g., KCI/SCI indexed).
Scope:
Projects should be broadly related to language, communication, and
cognition, including but not limited to:
- Language acquisition and cognitive development across the lifespan
- Phonetics and speech communication
- Korean linguistics in typological and cross-linguistic perspective
- Digital humanities and corpus-based approaches to language research
Interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged, including those that
integrate methods from linguistics, cognitive science, psychology,
data science, AI, or large language models (LLMs), provided they align
with the HK Research Group’s mission.

- acoustic cue-weighting, gradient categorization, executive
function, individual difference, sound change
- Rajalakshmi Madhavan, Chosun University
- word learning, curiosity, eye-tracking, pupillometry,
parent-child interactions
- Katie Von Holzen, Technical University of Braunschweig
- first/second language acquisition, eye tracking,
bilingualism, phonological development, lexical acquisition
Eligibility:
- Undergraduate or graduate students in relevant fields
- An existing research project that can be completed within the
fellowship period
- An independent research project that can result in a paper
publication where the student applicant is the first author and the HK
mentor is the corresponding author (we might be sending out a
confirmation form to your advisor at your institution in the second
round of the selection process).
- Confirmation from an HK Research Group member who will serve as
mentor
Application Requirements:
1. HK mentor confirmation email sent directly to the committee after
initial meeting with the mentor
2. Cover letter introducing the applicant, research interests, advisor
of the current institution, if you have one (name and email), HK
mentor’s name and motivation for applying
3. Research proposal including background, current status, remaining
work, objectives, methods, timeline, and feasibility
4. Academic transcript in either Korean or English
Fellowship Stipend:
Undergraduate students: KRW 3,000,000 (total for 3 months)
Graduate students: KRW 4,500,000 (total for 3 months)
Deliverables
- By February 15, 2026: a manuscript co-developed with the HK mentor
and ready for submission to a peer-reviewed journal (e.g., KCI/SCI
indexed)
- Midterm presentation at an HK brown bag meeting (January 2026,
hybrid format)
- Final presentation at the HK Global Fellows Colloquium in February
2026, hybrid format.
