Welcome to the 6th International UCM Predoctoral Conference on English
Linguistics (UPCEL 2026), which is organised by the PhD Programme in
English Linguistics and will be held on January 21, 22, and 23, 2026,
at the Faculty of Philology, Complutense University of Madrid. As a
predoctoral conference, we encourage predoctoral students and
early-career scholars from various linguistic fields to submit their
work. It will be a great opportunity to share both completed research
and work in progress.
This year’s UPCEL edition, titled “Expanding the Horizons of English
Linguistics,” seeks proposals featuring cutting-edge research on
innovative and/or interdisciplinary topics, methodologies, or analyses
relevant to 21st-century linguistics. We welcome submissions across a
broad range of linguistic disciplines, especially those aligned with
(but not limited to) our conference research lines:
- Applied Linguistics
- Cognitive Linguistics
- Computational Linguistics
- Corpus Linguistics
- Historical Linguistics
- (Inter)Cultural studies
- Morphology and Syntax
- Phonetics and Phonology
- Pragmatics and (Critical) Discourse Analysis
- Sociolinguistics
- Translation and Contrastive Studies
Contributions must be written and delivered in English. Submission is
open for both oral presentations and posters:
- Oral presentations will last 20 minutes and will be followed by 10
minutes for discussion.
- Posters will be presented in a dedicated session in which each
author will have 3 minutes to present their work. After that, posters
will remain on display in key areas during the conference.
Each participant may submit up to two proposals. Abstracts must
clearly state research objectives, methodology, data and (expected)
results. They should not exceed 500 words, including references and
keywords, and must be submitted via the SYMPOSIUM platform at UCM
(https://eventos.ucm.es/135957/upload/expanding-the-horizons-of-english-linguistics.html)
by October 15th, 2025.
You can find more information on the submission guidelines on the
