Description:
The Department of Linguistics in the Dana and David Dornsife College

Phonology and Linguistics during the 2026-2027 academic year.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Linguistics and be able to

graduate-level advising.
Phonology at USC approaches phonological theory as an integrated
branch of the broader field of cognitive science. Our program
emphasizes multidisciplinary connections in the study of linguistic
sound systems, both theoretically and methodologically. Our phonology
curriculum incorporates intersections with phonetics, morphology,
psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, diachrony, and broader cognitive
science in core theoretical phonology courses. We are committed to
multimodal methodological practices—computational, experimental,
fieldwork—in training our students. We invite applicants whose
research and teaching foci align with this multidisciplinary,
cognitive science-rooted approach.
Applications should include a CV, cover letter, 1 sample publication,
and (if available) teaching evaluations, along with the names and
email addresses of three potential referees. Review of applications
will start on April 21 and will continue until the position is filled.
