Focus: - Field methods & glossing sessions
- Team-based work with native speakers of Abkhaz
- Hands-on linguistic analysis (morphosyntax, phonology, semantics)
Description:
The CauLaGe Summer Fieldwork Program is an intensive linguistic
expedition. Participants will engage in fieldwork on Abkhaz,
linguistic analysis, and workshops led by experts in the field. While
it is focused on a Caucasian language, the program is open to anyone
who wants to gain hands-on experience in language documentation and
analysis while working closely with native speakers.
The number of participant spots is capped at 20.
Program Structure
- Mornings: Courses on general linguistics and Abkhaz grammar,
covering all major subfields
- Afternoons: Supervised team-based fieldwork sessions with Abkhaz
speakers, led by experienced researchers
- Evenings: Debrief session
Financial Aid Applications accepted until 15-Apr-2026
Partial financial aid is available to help students cover living costs
in Peria. Requests for financial aid must be submitted through the
application form and will be considered as part of the selection
process. NB: Applicants requesting financial aid must upload a letter
signed by their supervisor confirming that they do not receive funding
from their home institution and specifying the requested amount.

Accepted applicants must confirm their participation via email within
7 days of receiving their acceptance letter.  Mandatory registration
fee (including grantees): Students: 70 euros per person.
Faculty/other: 150 euros per person.
