Going Romance is a European conference series dedicated to the study
of Romance languages from the perspective of contemporary linguistic
theory. Over the past four decades, it has established itself as a
leading forum for cutting-edge theoretical research on Romance
languages.
The 40th edition of Going Romance will be hosted by the Institute for
Language Sciences at Utrecht University (the Netherlands) from
November 11–13, 2026. This anniversary edition marks a symbolic coming
home, as the very first Going Romance conference was also held in
Utrecht in 1986.
Invited Speakers:
- Henriëtte de Swart (Utrecht University)
- Francesc Torres-Tamarit (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
- Michelle Sheehan (Newcastle University)
We invite submissions addressing the intersection of linguistic theory
and Romance languages. We invite abstracts for presentations on all
aspects of Romance linguistics, including (but not limited to):
- syntax, semantics, and pragmatics
- phonology and morphology

- language acquisition and language change
- comparative and typological approaches
- interfaces between linguistics and related disciplines
Accepted oral presentations will be 25 minutes, followed by 10 minutes
of discussion.
