The 26th Workshop on Cantonese (WOC-26)
Everything in one wok: Cantonese in multilingual environments

We are pleased to announce that the Twenty-Sixth Workshop on Cantonese
(WOC-26) is jointly organised by The Linguistic Society of Hong Kong
(LSHK) and the Department of Linguistics and Translation, City
University of Hong Kong (LT department, CityUHK). The workshop will be
held in person on Saturday, 30 May 2026, at CityUHK.
The theme of WOC-26 is “Everything in one wok: Cantonese in
multilingual environments”. We warmly invite scholars and students to
share their work on all areas of Cantonese linguistics. We are
particularly interested in research that is relevant to (but not
limited to) language contact, multilingualism, code-mixing, language
changes, grammaticalization, language acquisition and so on, leading
to deeper insights into the analysis of Cantonese or contributing to
theoretical and applied linguistics.
Submission of Abstracts:
Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks with 10 minutes for
discussion. Presentations can be given in Cantonese, English, or
Mandarin.
Abstracts may be written in Chinese or English and should be limited
to one A4 page, including the author(s) name(s), affiliation, and
e-mail address(es).

Registration Fee:
The WOC-26 registration fee is HKD$160 (non-refundable). Important

- Notification of acceptance: 9 May 2026 (via e-mail)
Upon completing registration, presenters will be granted a 1-year LSHK
affiliated membership!
