The 3rd SMOG International Conference on Syntax and Semantics
(ICSS at GKNU), hosted by the Society of Modern Grammar (SMOG), will take
place at GyeongKuk National University in Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do,
Korea, from August 18–20, 2026.
ICSS at GKNU is an annual conference that brings together generative
linguists from East Asia and around the world to present and discuss
current research on generative syntax and its interfaces. In addition
to regular presentations, the conference features plenary and invited
lectures.
The theme of the 2026 conference is “Cycles in Human Language
Computation.” Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- The definition of cycles
- Merge (internal vs. external Merge)
- (Anti-)locality
- The definition of workspace
- The duality of semantics
- A/A′ distinctions
- Economy conditions
- The Strong Minimalist Thesis and its applications
Submissions from all areas of generative grammar are equally welcome.

Invited Speaker:
- Yoichi Miyamoto (Osaka University, Japan)
Abstract Submission Guidelines:
 - Abstracts must be anonymous and may not exceed 2 pages (A4 or US
letter), including examples but excluding references. Submissions
should use 12-point Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins.
References may be included on a third page.
 - Each author may submit a maximum of one single-authored and one
co-authored abstract, or two co-authored abstracts.
 - Please indicate whether the submission is intended for oral
presentation, poster presentation, or either.
Submission deadline: May 31, 2026
Notification of acceptance: June 30, 2026
