PhD position at ZAS (project LIBILLE)
The Leibniz-Centre General Linguistics (ZAS) invites applications for
a PhD research position inthe project LIBILLE within the DFG priority
program LaSTing for a period of 3 years and apercentage of 66% (25.74
h/week) starting between July 1st and October 1st 2026.

Job Description:
The project LIBILLE examines the limits and biases in machine and
human languageand its learning. We are looking for a highly motivated
PhD student to conduct primaryresearch relevant to this area, to carry
out project work jointly with the PIs and to presentthe findings at
conferences and in research publications. An MA degree in
linguistics,computer science or another relevant field is required.
Your Tasks:
- Investigate morphosyntactic and other biases in LLMs
- Carry out learning experiments with LLMs
- Prepare research publications, chapters, summaries, and reports
- Participate and actively contribute to the LaSTing program and its
annual meetings
- Disseminate findings in the scientific community and the media
Your Profile:
- Interest in and extendable knowledge of linguistic theory and
computational linguistics
- Versatility with programming languages such as Python and/or R
- Emergent expertise in LLM research including API workflows and
in-context learning
- Organized and self-motivated professional
- Strong communication, team work and writing skills
