Special issue on
“Perspectives on Media Informed Sociolinguistics: The Case of North
Africa”
Guest Editors for this special issue: Abdelaadim Bidaoui and Hasnaa
Essam Farag
This special issue invites contributions that apply sociolinguistics
to understand or account for how various forms of media allow us to
develop a good understanding of the interaction between language and
society in North Africa. Acknowledging that the performative landscape
of media plays a vital role in shaping everyday linguistic choices and
social meanings, this special issue aims to demonstrate the complex
relationship between language and media practices while highlighting
their similarities and differences within North African contexts.
We are especially interested in work that bridges between
sociolinguistics and media studies, or any related field which engages
areas of interest to sociolinguistic research, but the work must
engage strongly with and/or apply sociolinguistic theories or
approaches to be appropriate for this special issue.
We encourage all work in sociolinguistics, including work that seeks
to advance sociolinguistic theories, advance methodology, and apply
sociolinguistics to a range of topics. We also encourage research on
any other theoretical, methodological, and/or empirical work using
sociolinguistics.
