Website:
https://www.aston.ac.uk/research/forensic-linguistics/events/international-summer-school

Dates: 16-Jun-2026 - 19-Jun-2026
Location: Aston University Birmingham Campus, United Kingdom

Minimum Education Level: Nothing is required, but must be over 18 to
attend
Special Qualifications: We do not have any requirements on
qualifications, but it is strongly recommended that you have some
knowledge of the main subfields of linguistics. If you do not, we do
have recommendations of texts to help you understand those fields
before the summer school starts on our website under the FAQ tab at
the bottom of the page!

Focus: We aim to introduce participants to the theoretical and
practical aspects of four major themes in forensic linguistics:
Authorship Analysis, Spoken Interactions, Online Harmful Discourse,
and Disputed Meanings. The afternoon sessions are going to be
particularly focused on providing attendees an opportunity to try the
methods they learn about for themselves on actual data. We aim to
provide a thorough grounding in the field so that attendees can build
on it from there in future studies or in their professional careers.
Description:
We are hosting the 20th edition of the International Summer School in
Forensic Linguistic Analysis, which will run from 16-19 June 2026 at
Aston University's Birmingham campus.
Our programme this year will cover four major themes in forensic
linguistics - Authorship Analysis, Spoken Interactions, Online Harmful
Discourse, and Disputed Meanings. In the mornings, our tutors will
talk about theory and research relating to the topic, and in the
afternoons, they will introduce practical applications of that
research.
In the evenings of the first three days, we have three events planned.
On the first day, a special lecture from Dr Andrea Nini, a renowned
researcher in authorship analysis. On the second day, we have a social
at the Gosta Green Pub next to Aston's campus for participants to get
to know each other and their tutors better. And on the third day, we
have a special workshop from a member of the Senso.cloud linguistics
team talking to us about her work on AI chatbots.
The fees will be £525 for the full programme and £150 for individual
days. This will include the tuition fees, lunches, coffee/tea breaks,
course materials, the special lecture, the workshop, and a 'swag bag'.
For multi-day attendees (2+ days), we are also able to offer
affordable accommodation on campus, with a single bed for £24 a night
and a double for £25 a night. The instructions on how to register for
that are on our website under the tab titled 'On Campus
Accommodation'.
If you would like more information about this year's ISSFLA, please
visit our website! If you want to register, you can do so via the
Aston University Web Store. You can also find our email on the website
if you would like to ask us any questions.
