Description:
Advance notice of a predoctoral research training (FPI) contract
The Research Group on Sociolinguistics in the Balearic Islands
(GRESIB) at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) announces an
upcoming four-year predoctoral research training (FPI) contract to
undertake a PhD within the framework of the research project funded by
the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities
(PID2025-173005NB-I00), Variability and optionality in stable and
developing grammars (Principal Investigator: Maria del Mar Vanrell).
The successful candidate will join the Research Group on
Sociolinguistics in the Balearic Islands (GRESIB)
(https://gresib.uib.cat/) and the Institute for Educational Research
and Innovation (IRIE) (https://irie.uib.cat/).
Requirements: Applicants must hold a Master's degree in Linguistics or
Philology (or a closely related field), have an outstanding academic
record in both their undergraduate and master's studies, and
demonstrate an interest in the project's research lines: (1)
variability and optionality in stable grammars and (2) variability and
optionality in developing grammars. Both research lines address
syntactic and phonetic-phonological phenomena and focus on a wide
range of populations, including societal bilinguals,
additional-language learners, and multilingual speakers.
Knowledge of Catalan and/or Spanish will be considered an asset.
Applicants who are not yet proficient in one or both languages will be
expected to acquire a working knowledge of them during the course of
the PhD, as they are important both for carrying out the research
activities and for full integration into the academic and social
environment of the project.
The PhD will be carried out within the Doctoral Programme in Philology
and Philosophy (more information:
https://estudis.uib.cat/estudis-de-doctorat/doctorat/TFIF/).
Procedure: As soon as the official call is published, interested
candidates will be informed about the application procedure.
Applicants interested in this position should send the following
documents to Maria del Mar Vanrell (mm.vanrell at uib.cat):
- A cover letter explaining their interest in the position, including
the names and email addresses of two researchers who can provide an
assessment of their academic and research background.
- An up-to-date curriculum vitae.
Applications may be submitted in Catalan, Spanish, or English until 15
September, 11:59 p.m. (CEST, UTC+2).
