Description:
This is a full time position at the Sociolinguistics Lab for 3 years.
The successful candidate will contribute to an ongoing research
project which investigates processes of language variation and change
across the lifespan. The candidate will undertake the analysis of
spoken English language data using cutting-edge research methods and
be active in the advancement of ongoing research in the lab. The
fellow will publish research in collaboration with members of the
Sociolab team and they will contribute to writing joint publications
resulting from ongoing research. The successful candidate will also be
required to teach a mix of undergraduate and graduate classes in
linguistics amounting to 4 hours per week (=2 classes) in both the
summer and winter term.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in sociolinguistics/language
variation and change and have a proven track record of publishing
relevant research in reputable outlets commensurate with their time in
academia. The candidate will have a strong background and practical
knowledge in empirical methods for sociolinguistic analysis, including
experience with software and advanced statistical methods relevant for
the analysis of language change. A candidate with experience
conducting quantitative research of spoken language data in the
context of the British Isles and an interest in language change across
the lifespan is desirable. No knowledge of German is required.
Interested applicants are asked to e-mail a statement of interest
(letter of motivation), a CV including a list of publications and
teaching experience, a copy of their PhD certificate, and the names
and addresses of two referees. Applicants are requested to provide two
writing samples (i.e. chapters of the dissertation or academic
papers).
The annual salary is based on spine point TV-L 13 (100 % FTA) on the
German university salary scale.
