We are pleased to announce that the fourteenth international Corpus
Linguistics conference will take place in Venice (Italy), 12-16 July
2027, and it will be jointly organised by "Ca' Foscari" University of
Venice, The University of Liverpool and the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University.

Adaptation and Adaptability in Corpus Linguistics:
Adaptation and adaptability have become unavoidable in an era defined
by profound change and crisis - ecological, socio-political, economic,
medical, technological, and beyond.
Rather than viewing adaptation and adaptability as the passive
acceptance of change, we invite submissions to CL2027 that explore
adaptation and adaptability as active strategies of awareness,
resilience, responsibility, and resistance (amongst other things).
Specifically, we invite submissions that adopt (and adapt) corpus
methodologies to explore the many and major disciplinary and global
challenges we face today by considering the adaptation and
adaptability of various textual and communication strategies pertinent
to these challenges.
We welcome paper presentations, poster presentations, thematic panels,
and pre-conference workshops that explore any aspect of corpus
linguistics methodology and theory, but we particularly encourage
submissions addressing the core theme of linguistic adaptation and
adaptability in relation to the following dimensions, which can
include but are not limited to:
Innovation and adaptation of Corpus Methods:
- Innovation in Corpus Design: New approaches to corpus construction,
sampling, and annotation
- Tools and Techniques: Development and critical evaluation of
analytical software, visualisation techniques, and computational tools
and techniques
- Methodological Rigor: Critical (re)assessment of existing
frameworks, statistical techniques, and approaches to best practice in
research (e.g. replicability, reproducibility)
- Variation, Varieties, and Pedagogy
- Pedagogical Applications and Learner Corpora: Design, analysis, and
utilisation of learner language datasets; language teaching, second
language acquisition, and assessment; and the teaching of corpus
linguistics as an academic discipline
Underrepresented Languages and Multilingualism: Studies on
marginalised codes, sign languages, translanguaging practices, and
intercultural communication:
- Translation and Contrastive Analysis: Corpus approaches to
translation studies, cross-linguistic contrast, and localised text
adaptation
- Sociolinguistics and Structural Adaptability: Language change,
multimodal communication, register/genre variation, and digital
communication on social media.
Corpus Linguistics: applications and impacts:
- Climate, Environment, and Sustainability: Analysis of ecological
crises, climate crisis communication, and environmental policy
- Socio-Cultural Studies and The Economy: Corpus approaches to
promotional culture, corporate communication, marketing,
entrepreneurship, and specialised institutional realms (such as
institutional hospitality, cultural heritage, regional promotion
discourses, etc.)
- Health, Wellbeing, and Policy: Investigating language adaptation in
medical communication, healthcare accessibility, and public policy
formulation
Specialised Domains: Forensic linguistics, stylistics, lexicography,
and social mobility studies:
- Corpus Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Generative AI in Corpus Studies: Utilising large language models
(LLMs) and advanced AI tools in corpus-based/-driven studies
- AI-Driven Analysis: Synergies between 'traditional' corpus tools and
AI tools
- Evaluation of Synthetic Language: Corpus-based studies and forensic
evaluation of AI-generated prose, checking for bias, stylistic
variance, and structural drift
- AI-Enabled Methods: studies making use of AI in the adaptation and
innovation of corpus methods
Submission Guidelines:
Paper, poster, and thematic panel abstracts, and pre-conference
workshop proposals, should be submitted via the CL2027 CMT submission
point (available on the conference's website
https://sites.google.com/view/cl2027/call-for-papers). The language of
the conference is English. We especially encourage submission of
abstracts from early-career researchers, including postgraduate
research students and postdoctoral researchers.
Paper Presentations:
Paper presentations are especially suitable for submissions that
report on completed research, or research in progress for which at
least some substantial results have been generated. Abstracts should
be a maximum of 3,000 characters (inclusive of references).
Abstracts should report on the background, research questions, data,
methods, results, and implications of the research, as appropriate to
the nature of the paper.  All accepted papers will be allocated a
30-minute block (20-minute presentation + 5 minute Q&A + 5 minutes
changeover)
Poster Presentations:
Poster presentations are especially suitable for submissions that
report on planned/early-stage/work-in-progress research for which
substantive results may not have yet been generated. Abstracts should
be a maximum of 3,000 characters (inclusive of references).
Abstracts may report on the background, research questions, data,
methods, (provisional) results, and (potential) contributions of the
research, as appropriate
Thematic Panels:
Thematic panels are extended sessions that relate to a single coherent
theme. To ensure synchronisation of the parallel sessions, panels must
be divided into 30-minute blocks (25 minutes + 5 minutes changeover),
each comprising, for example, a paper presentation or discussion
session (e.g. speaker roundtable, panel discussion, extended Q&A).
Panel organisers should direct informal enquiries to the CL2027
organising committee (corpuslinguistics2027 at gmail.com) prior to
submission
Inquiries should detail the overall motivation for the panel,
individual contributions within the panel, and the proposed panel
structure
Proposals are welcome for panels of minimum of 1.5 hours (3 papers) in
length.
Panels will not be processed without prior consultation with the
CL2027 organising committee.
