Scope of the Book
This book examines the intersection of applied linguistics and
cognitive science to show how theoretical perspectives can be
meaningfully translated into effective language education practices.
It emphasizes core cognitive and psycholinguistic processes in second
language acquisition, and critically engages with the roles of
multilingualism, cross-linguistic influence, and sociocultural
contexts in shaping language learning. The volume also examines the
transformative role of digital tools, educational technologies, and
innovative pedagogical approaches in modern language teaching
contexts. Finally, it highlights robust research methodologies,
evidence-based practices, and emerging directions that guide future
scholarship and practice in language education.
Topics of interest:
Section I: Cognitive and Psycholinguistic Foundations of Second
Language Acquisition
- Theories of second language acquisition and cognitive models
- Bilingual and multilingual cognition
- Language acquisition across the lifespan
- Individual differences in learner cognition (motivation, aptitude,
learning styles)
- Neurolinguistic and brain-based studies of language learning
Section II: Multilingualism, Cross-Linguistic Influence, and
Sociocultural Dynamics
- Cross-linguistic influence, transfer, and interference
- Multilingual and multicultural classroom dynamics
- Language policies, identity, and learner diversity
- Intercultural communication in educational contexts
- Sociolinguistic factors affecting language learning
Section III: Digital Tools, Technology, and Innovative Approaches in
Language Education
- Technology-enhanced language learning
- Online and hybrid language learning environments
- Gamification, digital storytelling, and adaptive learning tools
- Corpus-based approaches and data-driven learning
- Assessment and feedback in technology-mediated contexts
- Emerging pedagogical approaches leveraging digital innovation
Section IV: Research Methodologies, Evidence-Based Practices, and
Future Directions
- Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research designs
- Experimental and longitudinal studies in language acquisition
- Evidence-based instructional practices
- Measurement of learning outcomes and assessment innovations
- Interdisciplinary and translational research approaches
- Identifying gaps, trends, and future directions in applied
linguistics
