Subject: METAGRAM Seminar Series on Questions of Grammar-Writing (Hybrid Mode)
The Metagram seminar (https://htl.cnrs.fr/seminaire-metagram/) is a
monthly seminar on questions of grammaticography and
metagrammaticography. The seminar takes place the second Tuesday of
each month, Feb-May and Sept-Dec, in hybrid mode. It is supported by
the Empirical Foundations of Linguistics infrastructure project.
The seminar is one of two strands within a research project,
“Developing (meta)grammaticographical methods”, coordinated by Aimée
Lahaussois and Yvonne Treis, which centers around the analysis of
features of descriptive grammars and the development of new insights
into grammar-writing practices. Through the project, we explore
questions of metagrammaticography, of interest to both linguists
engaged in language description and typologists who make use of
descriptive grammars.
Linguists who have written significant reference grammars are invited
to discuss their grammaticographical practices and experiences. They
are asked to address a list of topics, covering questions such as
structuring schemes, influences, use of exemplification, integration
of the corpus into the grammar. The seminar focuses on one language
family per year, in order to highlight differences in practices for a
linguistic area.
For spring 2026, the languages of the Trans-Himalayan/Tibeto-Burman
family will be featured.
