Subject: GRAPHIA Invites Linguists to Provide Research Questions
As part of GRAPHIA, a European research project working to make Social
Sciences and Humanities (SSH) data easier to discover, connect, and
reuse through a shared knowledge graph, we are looking for your
suggestions.
We believe that for linguistics researchers, this work is especially
relevant. Linguistic data—corpora, lexicons, annotations, grammars,
language resources, and metadata—often exists in rich but siloed forms
across projects and infrastructures. Knowledge graphs provide a way to
connect these resources across languages, domains, and methodologies,
enabling new forms of discovery, comparison, and reuse.
Through Quagga, a platform developed by our partner Odoma, GRAPHIA is
collecting SSH knowledge graphs together with example research
questions and their corresponding SPARQL queries. Its goal is to make
knowledge graphs more visible and approachable, including for
researchers who may not be familiar with query languages.
We are keen to see greater representation from linguistics in Quagga.
This includes existing linguistic knowledge graphs, datasets that
could be expressed as knowledge graphs, and—crucially—the kinds of
research questions linguists would like to ask of such data. Examples
might relate to languages, speakers, texts, linguistic features,
annotations, or resource coverage across time and space.
You can contribute directly via the Quagga platform here
https://quagga.graphia-ssh.eu/home by adding knowledge graphs and
example questions, and a short how-to video is available to guide you
through the process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJQ0DltpiNw.
We warmly invite linguistics researchers and projects to explore
GRAPHIA and help shape how knowledge graphs can support linguistic
research.
With best regards,
Ursula
on behalf of the GRAPHIA project
