7th Crete Summer School of Linguistics / CreteLing2026

Minimum Education Level: University students of any level.

Focus: CreteLing focuses on theoretical linguistics, experimental
linguistics and current trends in linguistics and related fields (e.g.
computer science, cognitive science, neurolinguistics, language and
music etc.). The program includes introductory courses and advanced
seminars and is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students,
researchers and faculty members.
Description:
The Division of Linguistics at the University of Crete invites
everybody interested in linguistics to apply to the 7th Summer School
in Linguistics in Rethymnon, Crete, Greece. The school will take place
from July 18 to July 31, 2026 and there will be introductory,
intermediate and advanced courses in a number of linguistic subfields:
phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, language
acquisition, neurolinguistics, language evolution, philosophy of
language, historical linguistics, computational linguistics and LLMs,
language and music and superlinguistics.
There will also be a workshop titled LINGUISTIC THEORY AT THE AGE OF
LLMs: A DIALOGUE, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 (organized by Danny Fox,
MIT & Yosef Grodzinsky, Hebrew University of Jerusalem)

There will be three poster sessions (on Sunday, July 19, Thursday,
July 23 and Wednesday, July 29) in which CreteLing participants will
be given the opportunity to present their work.

the Van Riemsdijk Foundation to offer a small number of fellowships.
Van Riemsdijk Foundation fellowships will be based on merit (based on
the applicant's CV and reference letter) and will be equally
distributed among undergraduate and graduate students.

Registration Instructions:
Everyone interested in attending CreteLing needs to apply to the
school by submitting the online application form, uploading their CV
(in pdf format) and, if a student, providing the name of a referee.
Faculty (active or retired) and PostDocs need to fill in the online
application form and submit a CV. No letter of reference is required.
Students (undergraduate and graduate) and independent scholars/other
applying to CreteLing2026 will need to:
a) fill in the online application form,
b) upload a short CV in PDF format (including information regarding
the linguistics courses they have taken),
c) ask their referee/supervisor/instructor to send a reference letter
to creteling.admissions at gmail.com. Please make sure your referee
submits the letter as soon as possible. Your referee will not receive
a prompt from us. Without the reference letter you cannot be admitted
to the school if you are applying for the first time and you cannot be
considered for a Van Riemsdijk Foundation grant, even if you are a
returner.
