Description:
Two Assistant Professor posts (Ref: 2600085) are vacant in the
Department of English Language Education at the Education University
of Hong Kong. The Department has around 20 academic and teaching staff
who provide teaching and supervision to the undergraduate and
postgraduate degree programmes in the Faculty of Humanities and the
University. The successful candidates will participate in research,
teaching, knowledge transfer, and community service. They are expected
to do research that leads to successful grant proposals and
publications in recognized refereed journals. They will also develop,
evaluate and teach in programmes at both undergraduate and
postgraduate levels, provide guidance to students as academic
advisers, supervise students on teaching practice, and contribute to
other activities as assigned by the Head of Department.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in English language teaching
and learning, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics (with a focus on
education), or a related field. Priority will be given to candidates
who can demonstrate research expertise, and/or practical experience,
in one of more of the following areas: technology (including AI) and
teaching and learning methodologies at primary and/or secondary level,
curriculum development, task-based language learning, grammar and/or
phonology in language teaching and learning, and in-service teachers’
professional development.
Applicants should submit evidence of research publications in the
relevant field(s), evidence of high-quality teaching, plans for future
development, and demonstrate commitment to work with schools and
education professionals. Qualified teacher status (QTS) is not
required but will be considered favourably.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe
benefits include the University’s Voluntary Contributions to MPF
Scheme or a contract-end lump sum payment (totaling up to 15% of the
basic salary), leave, medical and dental benefits, and, where
applicable, housing benefits.
