Job Location: Bayonne, France
Web Address: https://iker.cnrs.fr/ahal/?lang=en
Job Title: PhD in Bilingual Language Acquisition and Processing
Job Rank: Researcher, Other
Specialty Areas: Language Acquisition; Psycholinguistics
Description:
The AHAL Lab, part of the IKER–CNRS research center and the Université
de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, invites applications for a fully funded
PhD position within a project investigating language acquisition and
processing in Basque-French bilingual children. The project focuses on
how language-specific grammatical features shape both language
comprehension and production.
The experimental work will examine
phenomena such as word order processing, the planning of silent
arguments, and the use of gender cues during real-time language
processing. In addition, the project will explore how bilingual
experience and sociolinguistic variables, such as age of acquisition,
language exposure, and language dominance, affect language acquisition
and processing.
The selected candidate will design and conduct
behavioral, eye-tracking, and/or EEG experiments to address these
questions and will be actively involved in the daily activities of the
AHAL experimental lab at the IKER–CNRS research center. The position
also offers opportunities for international travel, conference
participation, and specialized training.
Desired Profile:
Candidates should have a background in linguistics, psycholinguistics,
or cognitive neuroscience, hold a Master’s degree in a related field,
and demonstrate skills in data science (e.g. R and/or Python) and
statistical analysis. Experience with experimental methods and
knowledge of French and/or Basque are considered additional assets.
Duration and Salary:
The PhD position is funded through a CPJ project supported by the ANR
and provides full funding for the entire duration of the doctoral
program (3 years). The salary follows university regulations and
corresponds to CNRS doctoral salary scales (approximately €2,135 gross
per month).
