Description:
A position as Professor in English linguistics with a focus on English
as a lingua franca in the digital age is to be filled at the Faculty
of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel beginning
on February 1, 2027 or by appointment with the successful applicant.
Depending on the qualifications of the person to be appointed, the
position is filled as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor (TTAP), an
Associate Professor or a Full Professor.

Your position
We are looking for a scholar to teach English linguistics at the
Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral level:
- The position is also essential for the interdisciplinary Bachelor
in Language and Communication, the interdisciplinary Master program
Language and Communication, and the doctoral program in Linguistics
(Hermann Paul School of Linguistics Basel-Freiburg).
- The professor strengthens the empirical profile of Basel
linguistics and contributes to developing digital methodologies.
- Curricula planning will be coordinated with the professors of
English and the linguistics professors of the Department of Languages
and Literatures.
- The candidate is expected to conduct excellent research on English
as a lingua franca in contexts such as business, tourism, education
and everyday life, both in the digital and analog worlds.
Your Pofile:
- Applicants must have an excellent PhD, substantial post-doctoral
research experience and an excellent research and publication record
according to their academic age.
- The focus of research and teaching should be on English as a Lingua
Franca in contexts such as business, tourism, education and everyday
life, both in the digital and analog worlds.
- Applicants should demonstrate innovative digital methodologies and
research approaches and strengthen empirical linguistics within the
department.
- Teaching experience and a willingness to teach students on all
levels in an innovative and practice-oriented manner are expected.
- Furthermore, applicants should demonstrate successful acquisition
of external funding.
- Teamwork skills and a willingness to participate in university
administration are essential.
- The administrative language of the faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences is German.
