Subject: Publication of CORMA - Corpus Oral de Madrid

We are pleased to announce that the materials of the Corpus Oral de
Madrid (CORMA) have been released and are now available for online
consultation via the official website: https://www.corma.ugent.be.
CORMA is a reference resource for the study of spontaneous
conversational Spanish in present-day Madrid. Its aim is to document
through explicit methodological criteria the pragmatic, discursive,
and sociolinguistic variation of colloquial speech across different
interactional settings, providing reliable data for linguistic
research.
The corpus comprises 106 conversations recorded in Madrid (fieldwork
campaigns 2016–2019), involving 485 participants, 57 hours of audio,
and 469,860 words. The interactions cover a range of communicative
situations (family, friends, service encounters, and interactions
between acquaintances and strangers), allowing researchers to examine
how informality, conversational organization, and social meanings are
shaped across usage contexts.
The published materials include transcriptions, audio files, and
technical documentation, together with a detailed metadata system that
facilitates sub-sampling and both quantitative and qualitative
analyses (by recording variables, interaction type, and speakers’
sociolinguistic profiles). Access is intended for academic purposes
and is governed by terms of use that ensure participant protection and
the appropriate citation of the resource.
We warmly invite researchers, instructors, and students interested in
colloquial Spanish and linguistic variation to explore CORMA and
consult the materials directly on the website:
https://www.corma.ugent.be.
