Africa is one of the most multilingual continents, with a wide range
of speakers having bi-/multilingual repertoires (Juillard, 2021). In
Cameroon, more than 280 national languages coexist alongside French
and English, which are the official languages (Binam Bikoï et al.
2012). This multilingual situation has consequences on everyday
linguistic practices as well as the linguistic profiles of speakers,
who range from exclusive monolingualism to early bilingualism, late
bilingualism, additive bilingualism, subtractive bilingualism,
consecutive bilingualism and polyglotism. Within a context of
linguistic and cultural diversity as tricking as that found in
contemporary urban communities, the practice of speech therapy is
becoming increasingly complex (Michalon, 2025). Challenges arise in
terms of effective assessment and targeted care. However, not only is
speech therapy virtually non-existent in Cameroon, but there are also
no tests available in Cameroonian languages. Most assessments are
carried out using tools developed in French or English, which does not
allow for the linguistic and cultural particularities of each patient
to be highlighted, and which does not guarantee targeted and
successful treatment.
This conference brings together researchers from different backgrounds
working in the fields of speech therapy, audiology, psycholinguistics,
psychology, language acquisition, etc. The aim of this conference is
to undertake an in-depth exploration of the challenges and issues
related to clinical assessment in a context of linguistic and cultural
diversity. For that purpose, we encourage researchers to submit
in-depth papers on (but not limited to) the following topics:
1.    Hearing and language development
2.    Clinical assessment in monolingual patients
3.    Clinical assessment in multilingual patients
4.    A-/typical development of written language
5.    Language acquisition in a multilingual context
6.    Dynamic assessment
We will welcome abstracts of no more than 350 words, including
references, to the following email address: “submitcapsyc at gmail.com”,
no later than 29 March 2026. Notifications of acceptance will be sent
by 31 May 2026 at. Articles that meet standard requirements will be
published in the conference proceedings.
Participation Requirements:
Registration fee is CFA 15,000 for students, and CFA 30,000 for
lecturers. Note that lecturers invited by CAPSYC are exempt from
paying the registration fee. This fee covers material and logistic
organisation of the conference. However, travel and accommodation
expenses are not covered by CAPSYC. Nevertheless, a logistics
committee has been set up to facilitate accommodation arrangements
based on each participant's budget.
