Episode 3 of HELLO Lab Presents
(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxdTrF457qO7PAtDiSAJfEg) has just
been released — When will my kid say their first word?
(https://youtu.be/7Uv8kLz_Xq4)— which is the first of two episodes
related to word learning.
Spanish dubbed versions of episodes coming soon, thanks to Irene de la
Cruz-Pavía at Universidad de Deusto.

Project Announcement:
I’m excited to announce a fun project that students in my lab and I
have been developing this year — A YouTube channel called HELLO Lab
Presents. Our goal is to provide parents with evidence-based
‘edutainment’ on language development and related topics that they
have questions (and sometimes misinformation) about. The videos are
also a tribute to the work you have contributed to the ever-growing
and ever-changing body of knowledge.
Here’s what we have for our first six episodes:
Episode 1: Is ‘Baby Talk’ bad? (premiered today, 6 minutes)
Episode 2: Will learning two languages confuse my child? (premieres
12/10)
Episode 3: When will my baby say their first word?
Episode 4: How do babies learn words?
Episode 5: How do babies learn best? (this will focus on play and
interaction research)
Episode 6: “Technoference” and language learning
We have several ideas (some half-baked) for additional episodes.
Suggestions welcome.
As you all know better than anyone, these topics are not settled
science. We present our take on current state of knowledge in a way
that we hope will be useful for parents and help combat some of the
misinformation they get. We use lots of video examples of infants
doing language and learning, and we provide a link to an Evidence
Library that has the script for each episode with in-text links to
research papers and chapters (publicly accessible ones, when
available).
