Description:
This post-doctoral position is within the research and teaching team
of Prof. Dr. Sophie Repp at the Institute for German Language and
Literature I at the University of Cologne, Germany. The team focus on
combining linguistic modelling and quantitative data
collection/analysis using various experimental methods and written,
oral and audiovisual corpus analyses in the fields of
phonetics/phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and multimodal
communication. The target language is German, including
cross-linguistic comparisons both within the Germanic languages and
across language families.
The position involves the following tasks:
 - Teaching: Two classes per term (4 SWS) at the Institute for German
Language and Literature I on German linguistics (teaching is in
German)
 - Research: Your research will produce a post-doctoral portfolio
corresponding to the German ‘habilitation’ in the field of
linguistics, working in the context of theoretical linguistics
applying quantitative empirical methods (experiment or corpus)
 - Research topic: Ideally in one of the following areas: dialogue,
negation, ellipsis, non-assertive speech acts, anaphora; comparative
linguistic research is welcome
 - Administrative tasks and team support
Your Profile:
 - PhD in linguistics (general or within a philology)
 - Experience in combining linguistic modelling and quantitative data
collection/analysis
 - German and English language skills at (almost) native speaker level
 - Very good teamworking skills
The position is a full-time position (39.83 hours per week) starting 1
April 2026 or soon thereafter, with an initial contract duration of 3
years, which may be extend by another three years. Pay is A13 on the
German civil servant pay scale or E13 TV-L, depending on personal
circumstances.
