Description:
The School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of
Warwick invites applications for a permanent Assistant Professor in
Language Technologies and AI Governance. This post is part of a
strategic refresh through which the School is investing in new
research and teaching at the intersection of languages, AI, data
science, and digital multilingualism. The Modern Languages and
Translation landscape in the UK is undergoing rapid and significant
change, and this appointment is central to the School’s decisive
response to present and future challenges.
The post holder will develop research and teaching at the intersection
of language technologies, AI governance, and multilingual
communication, areas where the humanities have an essential and
underplayed role. They will contribute to existing provision while
playing an active role in developing new programmes and modules within
the School's Innovation Portfolio. The appointee will have genuine
agency in shaping the research agenda and curriculum direction of the
post. Individual leadership skills and experience with course
development will be an asset.
We welcome applications from candidates working in any discipline
whose work engages with how language, technology, and society
intersect. Relevant areas of specialisation include translation
studies, modern languages and technologies, applied linguistics,
computational linguistics, human-computer interaction, data science,
critical data studies, AI ethics and governance, science and
technology studies, language policy, health communication, and legal
informatics. Multilingual competence is essential, whether or not
candidates hold a formal qualification in languages. We are actively
seeking to diversify the disciplinary profile of the School and
encourage applications from candidates who may not have considered a
Modern Languages School as their natural home.
