We are pleased to announce that the 7th Phonetics and Phonology in
Europe conference (PaPE 2027) will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from
June 14 to June 17, 2027. PaPE is an interdisciplinary forum for
research on all areas of phonetics and phonology, with a special focus
on the relationship between the two. It promotes discussion of
phonetics and/or phonology and their related areas, from multiple
perspectives such as experimental phonetics, laboratory phonology,
formal phonology, neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics, computational
linguistics, language teaching and learning, language acquisition and
development, cognitive neuroscience, speech and hearing sciences,
speech technologies, speech pathology, and speech therapy. The theme
of PaPE 2027 is ‘Bridging the gap: Basic, applied and translational
research’.
Call for Papers:
We invite submissions on any aspect of phonetics and phonology.
Contributions relating to the conference theme are particularly
welcome.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Typical and atypical first language acquisition
- L2 learning, development and processing
- Bilingualism and multilingual language development
- Phonological and reading development
- Clinical phonetics and phonology
- Sound change and language contact
- Phonetic and phonological accommodation
- Language attitudes and identities
- Migration and language: space, time, sociocultural factors
- Minority/endangered languages
- Multimodality in phonetics and phonology
- Sign languages
- Phonetics and phonology across species
Abstract submission opens on July 27, 2026 and closes on November 13,
2026.
Call for Workshop Proposals:
Workshops co-located with the conference will take place on June 14
(morning) and June 17. The PaPE organizing committee invites proposals
for workshops. Workshops on under-researched topics are encouraged, as
well as those bearing on new methodological approaches and techniques.
Submission of workshop proposals deadline: September 21, 2026
