Call for Papers:
About the Forum:
The Buckeye East Asian Linguistics (BEAL) Forum provides a supportive
platform for students and emerging scholars to present and exchange
research findings in East Asian linguistics. This one-day event is
designed to foster a collegial and constructive environment through a
combination of keynote speeches and breakout sessions. After the
Forum, presenters are invited to publish their work in the open-access
Buckeye East Asian Linguistics series via The Ohio State University’s
Knowledge Bank. Both the BEAL Forum and the associated publication are
free of charge.
The 2026 BEAL Forum is scheduled for November 6, 2026, and will follow
a hybrid format. Presenters can opt for an on-site presentation at The
Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio or a remote Zoom session.
In addition to keynote speeches and regular breakout talks, this
year’s BEAL Forum will feature a special session dedicated to
Professor Mineharu “JJ” Nakayama of The Ohio State University,
celebrating his distinguished contributions to Japanese linguistics.
His extensive research -- encompassing first and second language
acquisition, language processing, syntax, and more -- has
significantly advanced the field of Japanese linguistics and
cross-linguistic research. Beyond his pioneering scholarship,
Professor Nakayama has been a steadfast mentor to many graduate
students and an exemplary champion for emerging researchers, notably
through his role in spearheading and organizing the BEAL Forum since
2014. Presentations in this honorary session will focus on topics
related to Professor Nakayama’s areas of expertise.
Submission Instructions:
Topics: Any subfield in East Asian linguistics, and from any
theoretical perspective
Deadline: Sunday, August 2, 2026, by 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time)

File 1: Anonymized abstract (PDF preferred)
 - Font: Times New Roman or Times, 12 pts
 - two pages maximum (letter-size, single-spaced, 1-inch margins)
