The University of Parma's doctoral conference "Grammars of Sexuality:
Forms of Saying, Narrating, Performing" (10-11 December 2026) explores
sexuality as a culturally constructed "grammar", a system of rules
that can be imposed, broken, or reinvented across discourse,
literature, and performance. It's organised into three sections:
Linguistics, focusing on how language, discourse, and embodied
communication construct sexual meaning; Literature, examining how
sexuality functions narratively across literary history, including
omission and metaliterary reflection; and Performing Arts and Cinema,
looking at how theatre and film stage or deconstruct desire, gender,
and the body.
The CFP is open to PhD candidates and to PhD holders who obtained
their degree no more than three years ago. Proposals are due by 30
September 2026, and selection results will be communicated by 19
October 2026, with information on the location and final programme to
follow at a later date.
The conference will take place on 10 and 11 December 2026 at the
Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Industries
(DUSIC) of the University of Parma.
