Subject: Seeking Speakers, Activists or Community Members of Indigenous Languages for Study on Language Activism

My name is Leon Grausam, and I am a research associate at the
University of Bremen. In my current work, I am exploring the concept
of "Language Activism" - what it means in practice, how it is lived
and experienced, and how it can serve as a tool for bottom-up research
in indigenous and minoritized language communities.
A central pillar of this research is a series of interviews with
people who are close to this topic. What matters most to me is that
indigenous perspectives are not just included in this research but
genuinely shape it. I want the voices, experiences, and understandings
of indigenous speakers and community members to be at the heart of how
Language Activism is understood academically.
I would be very grateful if you could help spread the word. Please
feel free to share this email via newsletters or other news outlets
you are connected to, and to invite family members or friends who
might be interested in participating. Any sharing, however small it
may seem, goes a long way. Speakers of other language interested or
active in Language Activism are also very welcome to take part as
well.
I'm especially interested in speakers of:
- Akan
- Avañe’ẽ | Guaraní
- ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi | Hawaiian
- Te Reo Māori
- Diné bizaad | Navajo
- Setswana | Tswana
The interviews are conducted via Zoom and will take place between 22
June and 12 August 2026 and about 20 to 30 minutes long. Participants
are free to choose whichever slot suits them best. To sign up and book
a time, please use the following link:

I would also welcome any exchange on the topic of Language Activism or
the possibility of future collaboration, so don't hesitate to be in
touch.
Warmest regards from Bremen,
Leon Grausam
